Shuttering when kickin' out of OD

Transmission has been running flawless for 125K, now if I am driving down the freeway and come up against a small incline and it kicks out of OD and shifts down a gear, it shutters, kinda like your running over the center markers in the road, or like those bumps now ground on the side of the highways. It quickly shutters about 8-10 times over about 1/2 a second. May be by coincidence but I just got the engine back in shape after fixing 6 broken plugs. The only thing I did was when I replaced the plugs and got the engine fired I hadn't put back the radiator and the tranny cooler hooked back up, the lines were hangin loose and I spilled about 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart on the floor. After I had it all back together I topped it up to the full mark when it was running but that was it. When I fixed the plugs I had to remove the intake manifold and disconnect some vacuum lines but I checked and they are all back in place. I read that there is that vacuum solenoid on the firewall that controls the 2wd to 4wd but thats not the issue i'm having. otherwise tranny shifts good. If I am cruisin on the freeway and really stomp on it and it goes down to passing gear, no shutter.

I am a little stumped, it seems to coincidental that I fixed the plugs and now this new issue is there.

idle the truck, hold foot on brake, and run it through all the gears slowly (3-5 seconds each) and then get back up to P then go to N and check your tranny fluid level again. Might have worked out some air bubbles....

When was the last time you did a trans fluid flush?

I believe I serviced it at 75000, it is due for a flush but the fluid that did come out was in pretty good shape. I had also driven about 140 miles from the time I put it all back together, adjusted the level, and the time I posted this question. I would think the bubbles would be worked out but I guess i've seen stranger things. I will give it a try.

yah they should be worked out by now. I usually do my flush, then go through all the gears, drive it, make sure it shifts through all the gears, then go through gears again and do a final level check.

Do your flush. My trans was acting up at 50k with bad fluid in it, new fluid and its flawless again.... The fluid felt and smelt fine, but there wasnt any more friction additives left in it.

Also, as soon as the shuttering starts keep your foot on the gas and keep accellerating at the exact same pace. Don't let off the gas or give it more. Immediately put your other foot lightly on the brake just enough to turn on the brake lights. Tell me what happens to the shutter when you do that.

Tried your process and I cannot hold the shuttering, it seems to be during the kick down. Example, I can be driving down the freeway at 1700-1800rpm doing about 65 or so, if I come to a slight incline and just press into the throttle a bit it kicks out of OD and down to 3rd (I think about 2100 rpm), its during that 1/2 second transition that it shutters about 6-10 times while its kickin down. If I am on the flats and really stomp on it and it shifts down to second (or passing gear), no shutter. Its a very slight shutter like your running over the centerline markers on the road, its not like a teeth shattering vibration. I am getting the fluid changed tomorrow but my gut tells me its more than that, we'll see.

That does sound like torque converter shudder - when you get the fluid changed, do a full replacement, not just a pan drop.
