4x4 vs. Traction Control System

I just bought a 2007 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Lariate with the Traction Control System. I had planned on buying the 4x4 version but couldn't pass up the price on this one. So my question is, how will this handle compaired to the 4x4 version on ice and snow (I live in Colorado and drive every Winter to the mountains to ski)?

4x4 is really for offroad conditions. AWD is a much better system for poor weather, ice and general everyday use

Question

Unfortunately the TCS only comes on the rear 2WD. So what is the verdict between 4x4 or rear 2WD with TCS?

That is to say the TCS only works on the rear wheels and is therefore not an AWD vehicle.
