Oil change joint overfilled trans fluid

A few weeks back when I went to the oil change place, I noticed one of the guys there dumping in what seemed like a ton of transmission fluid in my '06 F-150. It seemed odd as I have seen no leaks and have no reason to think I would need that much fluid.

After work I forgot to check it out, and had forgotten since. I was talking to my dad today and it came back to me that I needed to check that. Lo and behold, it is overfilled. I'd say it is about 1/2 inch above the full mark.

I don't know a ton about trucks, but I know overfilling can risk blowing the seals. Is this something I should be concerned with? I was thinking I should call the shop manager tomorrow, but what do I need to demand happen? I don't exactly trust them at this point, but if it needs dealt with, I'll have no problem holding their feet to the fire.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

When i dropped the pan on my tranny, i didnt have to take it all the way off for it to start leaking fluid, so maybe you could take it back in and have them loosen the bolts and leak some out.....

If indeed it is overfilled you can damage things.
A.)Go back and demand they take some out
B.)Call and let them know about it, but do it yourself
C.)Do like you did and always watch lube joints

You should be able to get some out if you siphon it out through the dip tube
uh, just don't drink it.

So I called the place this afternoon and the "assistant manager" told me to bring it in so that they can "drop the trans drain plug" and get the extra out. The trans drain plug? Is he perhaps confused? As far as I know, there is not such a thing.

Only thing I can figure is that he meant they would drop the pan? I am wondering if it would not be best to get a little pump and some hose and just pump it out via the dip tube. Thoughts??

IMO it would be easier to take off the inlet of your trans cooler (which would be you outgoing line of your transmission) and attach some rubber hose. Get a buddy to start it and let it fill about 1 bottle worth of trans fluid. Dropping the pan is a messy job and if you don't have to lay under the truck and get the "red shower" then it is a good day.

Get one of those pumps with the long tube that is made for you to stick into your dipstick hole and suck out as much as you want. If you suck out too much, it's right there, put some back in.

I don't think you are checking it properly.

drive the truck for about an hour then leave it running on a flat spot in the driveway.

Put it in park and check the fluid.

Anywhere in the hash marks is fine.

Double check before you take it to them. You don't want to look like an ass.

Cool

Pics of my welded drain plug
If your pan had one of these you could drain the excess here.
