color of Mercon V fluid Real time help needed

Newbie needs real time help

Was just helping my handicapped neighbor by changing his auto trans fluid. The owners manual calls for Mercon. I drained the fluid and it appears to be clear/yellow. Mercon is red. What color is Mercon V? Is it red also? I suspect the old fluid might have been Mobil 1.

Thanks Brad

does the fluid in the trans smell like trans fluid? Also check the coolant level, color, smell report anything unusual there too.

To me, merc and merc V should look like cherry pie filling. and darker red for the more it gets used, and eventually a brown if you do not change fluid forever.
the yellow sounds like anti-freeze to me. maybee the wrong line or hose got pulled or radiator drain got opened beneath where the tranny cooler lines hook up to the radiator

Yellow ain't right...

Anyway even though the manual calls for Mercon, ford discontinued motorcraft Mercon and reformulated the Mercon V to be backwards compatible. So if you used any other brand Mercon/dexron III, or new Motorcraft Mercon V, you are good.
