99 f150 stuck in park.....

Hey yall,

Here is my dilemma. The other day I changed my battery and my truck was running like a champ....I got home after a short drive and turned off my truck. The next day I go out start my truck and try to put it into drive..... It was a no go it was stuck in park... I had the break depressed I did. I tried hard to move it would budge from park. So I got into my owners manual and read that. I can take my truck to ON position and put it into nuetral and start my truck that way and drive it around works fine. But when I put it into park it does the same as before. I checked my break lights they both work turn signals both work. I checked my fuses they where all good. I disconnected my battery hoping to reset the computer it did not help. I have replaced fuses also. On that note neither my windshield wipers, dome lights and windows work....The alarm on my truck is factory and it is also tweaking I think that maybe that could be connected not sure if that would stop my truck from shifting into gear.... I am at my wit's end I love my truck and it only has 86 thousand miles on it. HELP ME!!!! please. I am about to take it to the freaking mechanic and I really don't want to do that. I have not had the cruise control recall done yet either unsure if that could also be the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mitch/Chrom3

There is a 'safety switch' that keeps the tranny in Park unless you have your foot on the brake and only releases if you have the brakes applied. It needs the brake light voltage to know to release. There is no voltage present. You say you have brake lights working so, I would suspect the safety switch. You may have a broken or pinched wire there, which is what the other thread stated in post #2.

Or you may have a short somewhere in your brake wiring that is blowing fuses, since you indicated your wipers etc... weren't working.

You need to order a brake light switch from your Ford dealer. It'll cost $15ish and takes 10 mins to replace... You don't even need any tools.
