My car 2000 Lariat F-150 worse case scenario .. well scariest too for me was when i was driving down hill and i was in D then i shifted which was suppose to be N but accidentally hit it all the way to Reverse my car instantly made this screeching sound like it was burning rubber but i instantly shifted it back to D or N i forget as quick. All lights showed i had no control of steering and brakes, brakes worked but it was SUPER STIFF and steering was really hard and i was going downhill. As soon as i was of the hill i somehow was able to brake and steer to the side of the road and i put my car on park and offed the car for 2 minutes or so. My car works fine now ever since then.
I was just wondering if somehow anything would be really damaged in my car.. other things that i should worry about because im only 17 and i recently got this truck and i just want to maintain my truck so it last long.
Should i be worried of any damage since that day?
Right now everything works fine. my truck still runs and yeah
i was really lucky.
I done something like that befor but i was real mad
girls...
But when you do that the motor has some safty thing to shut off...
so what it did is normal...
This is how i look at it... If it was going to hurt something it woulda broke..
stress like that isent going to just wear something its goin to snap lol
So i would say yer ok
Yep, it was a friend's T and he forgot to tell me the reverse lockout was broken. So when I slapped the handle to go to 3rd, it went to reverse. I went to the field next to the strip.

ouch!!! i have also wondered what would happen if you slammed it into reverse while driving, i guess we know now. i cant think that is good for the trans but i also agree that the most damage would have been done by sudden shock (instantly damaged). well if its still running in a month or two i guess we know that we have tough transmissions in our trucks!!
So far its been a couple of months since that and my trucks still running fine, so if you guys every happen to do that mistake just park somewhere in the side and put your gear in park and off your car.
I wasnt familiar with that engine fail-safe mode thing but something shut-off when i was driving causing me to not have power over steering and break. But luckily I was able to roll down the hill and park near the side.
Sorry 2 hear about that T- bucket that must be some insane *******! at least your alright
There really isn't any fail safe. What happens is that the trans engages reverse, and the load from that stalls the engine. When the engine isn't running you don't have power steering, but you should have power brakes for a short time. It won't hurt the engine to do this.
