no reverse

I just bought another f150. Its a 2000 4.6 v8 (4x4), when I go to put the truck into reverse it just makes one hell of a lot of noise. All of the other gears work fine. Im no transmission guy and was just looking for someone's opinion. I'm guessing its time to replace.

Good guess. Maybe you should work for AAMCO (All Automatics Must Come Out).

Well it does have to be internal damage, so your guess is right. My guess is reverse sun gear damage. I bet it broke the weld loose from the shell.

Where are you located?

It works! I just adjusted the linkage and I now have reverse again. That was a little easier than replacing the tran.
