gear question

When you put your automatic into 2nd, does it go through 1st and 2nd, or start out in second?

I would imagine 1st then second and stays in second, unless it hits a certain speed and RPM then I imagine the computer would shift it to prevent any damage.

If you put it 2nd it should take off in 2nd and stay in 2nd till you hit the revlimiter.

Why would you want to take off in second though?

2nd comes in handy when you're in slick conditions. 1st just spins the tires a lot.

X2 for what Phil and Att said.

It can also be used for dyno purposes, though most people dyno in 3rd gear with OD off.
