Quick 4x4 Question

Hey this is Straight from one of my buddies...

hey, havent talk to ya in a while but i had a quick 4x4 question i was hoping you could help with. I just got this f150 with manual lockers and i've always had auto's. so when i put it in 4wd i got out and locked the hubs (from free to lock) and then got back in and shifted to 4high. and the 4x4 light on the dash came on but i was getting no power to my front wheels. did i either not engage 4wd right (in the wrong order maby - shift first then lock wheels?) or does it sound like somethings wrong with my truck?? thanks a heap

Yeah, he did it the proper way. Somethings wrong...

Did he drive backwards a few yards and then forward to engage?
