Mind somewhere else?

Could just be the gearing. My 84 doesn't really like to get up that much to pass a car at those speeds. Can pull like a beast in the low end, but top end not so much.

Manual or auto? Important detail there...

Slipping clutch if manual, slipping internal clutches if auto (rebuild time).

If the engine RPMs raised but the tranny didn't downshift or the drivetrain didn't speed up, that means the tranny is slipping.

You can often buy some time by doing a fluid change and adding a bottle of RED LUBEGUARD to the fluid. Sometimes helps.

Avoid the slipping condition, it really accellerates the rate of wear.
