Starting in 2nd

I have an 01 f150 5.4 4x4. Sometimes it feels like the truck will start out in first gear and then shift early into 2nd and loose power. Other times it seems like it starts out in 2nd gear. The speed sensor on my rear differential was broken off could that be the problem.

I'd suspect you have other symptoms that you haven't mentioned.

The rear diff sensor isn't used for speed sensing to control shifting on your truck, it's only used for the 4WABS system. Given all the threads about failed rear diff sensors, no one ever mentioned a shifting problem like you have in conjunction with the failure of the sensor.

Have any more symptoms or fault indications?

Steve
