Transmission Problems ONLY when towing

Hi,
I have a 1999 Expedition with the 5.4 Triton engine and it seems to have a problem right around sixty when it sounds like I am running over rumble strips. The noise was coming from the backend until this past weekend when I was taking the boat out and the transmission started jerking with what sounded like a switch being switched on and off directly under the dash where the steering wheel is. VERY odd, I let off the gas and it stopped and then back to the rumble strips. Now whenever I go over 65 to about 70 the noise stops as well. My past experience would have indicated this was a problem with the driveshaft u-joint, but the noise under thedash and the jerking really shot up a red flag. Any help?
Ryan

Torque converter shudder is my guess if the U joints are good.

(im getting mine replaced in my 05 and it did exactly that when it was trying to lock the coverter in or release it....i had a factory rebuilt tranny put in and they had a year and a half with bad torque converters so its back at the shop to get a new tc put it.

This is just my guess though.
