Tranny making noise

My tranny has been making this noise it almost sounds like disc brakes, think it might be the pump because it only pumps when you hit the gas right??? well so i've been told and thats when the noise happens. Has anyone had this problem or can someone tell me if im gonna have to get my tranny worked on? tranny is an e40d on a 97 150

The pump is pumping any time the engine is turning. You should have an experienced mechanic listen to it.

Huh...

So ask him how the pump stops pumping when you are off the gas? I have a pretty intimate understanding of these transmissions and haven't ever seen any sort of pump clutch. As long as the engine is running, the transmission is connected to it through the torque converter and something isn't physically broken then the pump is indeed pumping.

All kidding aside, it sounds like you misunderstood what he was trying to say. If you didn't then I would move on and follow the suggestion to have someone else look at it.

So am I. The pump is splined to the engine's crankshaft. If the crankshaft turns, so does the pump.
