Need Help! 92 f150 will not go into Second!!

like the title says my tranny will not go into second gear!

the tranny is an AOD

story

i had to replace the rear main engine seal (leaking bad) well when i got it together again the truck will go into drive but wont shift into second gear

so i can go 40 km/h and hear the tranny whine like crazy...

oh and my truck still leaks hardcore so if anyone can also help with that that would be great!

You haven't given us NEARLY enough info to help you. Does it go into 1st or 3rd or OD? Did you drop the trans or pull the engine to do the rear main? Did you follow a shop manual? Which one? What's leaking? Where is it leaking from? Did you put thread sealer on the flexplate bolts?

Did you leave the torque converter on the engine when you pulled the trans? Did you put it back onto the flexplate before installing the trans? Did you refill the trans fluid & check the level after the engine was warmed up?

You shouldn't need thread sealer on the flexplate bolts, I don't think those cranks were drilled all the way through. Only vehicle I can remember having those problems were escorts and tempo's. I assume this is an aod transmission? Aod's had a roller clutch for second gear just like the early 4r70w transmissions and they were prone to failure.

Good!

If your truck still has a rubber grommet for the TV cable, you should get one of these ASAP.

That is good to know, I have never had a leak problem from one of them that way, but I usually use a little loctite which is probably sealing the threads for me.
