7700 transmission

Somebody told me the other day that my 7700 4x4 had the same transmission that a lightning has. I couldn't believe that so, I was wondering what you guys think.

Read the sticky post above and check your door jamb sticker.

Actually, only one of those is possible on an '02...

Most likely you have the 4R70w tranny. 4 speed, 70(x100)ft/lb torque, and wide range. E4OD(Electronic 4speed Overdrive) was discontinued in '98 when the body style was revamped. The 4r70w was intended to replace the e4od, though it's not quite as strong.

All lightnings have the 4R100 tranny. It's possible your truck does also, check the trans code on the sticker and read the sticky.

The 4R70W replaced the AOD and AODE. The 4R100 replaced the E4OD.

97 was the new body style. I had a 4R70w in my 97 Reg Cab/Long bed 4.6

Impossible. That tranny was discontinued in 1998.

Again, read the door sticker and then the FAQ in the sticky.

Ford built their last E4OD in 1998. After that they renamed the E4OD and called it the 4R100. It's basically the same trans with many changes.

If his 2001 REALLY has an E4OD, someone retrofitted it after it left the factory. The factory didn't have any E4ODs after 1998.
