Plug on Transmission different size. Can I change Plug?

I have a 99 F150 with this a 4R70w automatic transmission, the transmission went out so I found the same automatic transmission out of a 97 F150 that I pulled myself. Now after getting it home I see that the Plug(where the larger red cap is on the tranny in the pic.) is 9 pin where my old tranny is 7 pin. How can I change the Plug?

Thanks in Advance for your help.

Chris

(this is not the tranny I have, I borrowed this pic for illustration purposes only)

You may have to get a TCM [ transmission control module ] out of a 97, but I'm not sure if it will talk to a 99 PCM.

The big connector on the R (passenger) side of the trans is NOT the neutral start switch (NSS/MLPS/DTR). It's the main connector for the shift solenoids inside the trans. There's an article on TCCoA about how to convert between the 2 pinouts, and what else is involved, but the short version is: get a trans that matches your PCM.
