Mercon vs. MerconV

Here we go again, the conversation of Mercon vs. MerconV. Let me start. I've got a '97 4.6L with the 4R70W. My dad bought the truck new. I've had it for about 3 years now. Transmission oil and filter has been changed at 50,000 and at 100,000 miles. It has 145,000 on it now and I am planning it's change again. I know....every 30,000 is what's recommended. I plan on doing that now. Mercon is still available where I live, (for right now) so is MerconV. I've read the boards on the compatibility and also the TSB on the MerconV. Trans stick states Mercon along with the owner's manual. The transmission has NEVER given any troubles whatsoever. Sometimes I fear fixing what isn't broke. Anybody ever switched from the Mercon to the MerconV with high miles and had problems? I would like to hear some recommendations. Should I go one more change with the Mercon or should I go MerconV. If so what brand? I live in FL. Thanks.

If you've read the TSB, what's the problem? Use new Motorcraft MercV.

Mercon V was designed in '98 for the 4R70w to address issues reguar Mercon that don't have friction modifiers was causing in the 4R70w.

The new twist is that ford as stopped production of Mercon, and magically reformulated Mercon V to be safe for the E4OD/4R100, so who knows anymore.

But anyway, Mercon V is what yer 4R70w needs.

Thanks. I'll go with the MerconV this oil change. I'll drop the pan, drain the converter and flush the cooler lines.
