Opinions?

Do you prefer to leave Over Drive switched off while driving in the city?

My new 2007 F-150 with 3.73 gears and the 5.4 motor seems to be shifting a lot more then my 2002 F-150 with 3.55 gears and the 4.6 motor even did. I drove the 2002 around town the other day and did not notice the transmission shifting nearly as much as the 2007. Just wanted to see if this was the norm for the 5.4 with 3.73 gears or if I might have an issue with the transmission.

Thanks

Really just depends on the terrain. The only time you should lock out OD is if the tranny is constantly hunting between 3rd and 4th.

I leave OD on unless pulling a trailer. Works as it should.

With 3.73 gears their should be more shifts. . . .especially if going between 30 and 40 all the time. The higher gear ratio will mean that the engine has to turn more RPM to reach the same speed as the 2002. This means that the engine is in the programmed shift points in the PCM. . . .this could be modified with a chip, but I am not sure I would do that on a brand new vehicle still under warranty. As stated earlier, if there are not a lot of 3, 4 shifts then you are probably OK.
