Drain plug in 03 Exp?

Just wondering if there is a plug for draining the TC. I was looking at the bell housing and see a rubber bung plug. Would I be correct to assume that if I pull that, and, get the tranny rotated correctly, I might find a plug to drain the converter by?

I was afraid to pull that rubber plug!

The new explorers no longer have a drain plug for the converter. Also, check the fluid when it is below 100 degrees(warm) for it to be correct.

After 01 drain plugs are rare to find.

If you pull that plug on an 01 F150 (pull being high-end during mudding) then you will drain your whole tranny and be seriously up poo creek without a paddle. The service guy (coincidentally my mom's 03 expy was in the shop the same day I had my adventure) pointed out that that plug apparently "dudn't do much boy" I was astonished at that answer but I wouldn't pull it just incase it does do much

The rubber plug is nothing but a shield so dirt does not get up into the bell housing. As far as a plug on the TC, I would be very surprised if you had one. The first year the F150 did not have a drain plug was 02.

Hmm. Why would they put a rubber plug to keep dirt out of the housing if there is nothing up there to protect? Why not just a solid housing w/out the plug& hole?

I figured it was too easy!

There are things to protect. Things like flywheel, starter gears, rear main seal, etc. The plug also gives you an inspection hole to look for problems. Who wants to remove the bell housing and transmission and if there the transfer case just to see if the oil leak you have is a rear main or something that flowed down from the heads.
