92 4.9 liter 6 , transmission jumps out of gear

I 'm a dissabled vietnam vet with no auto mechanic expierence. My 92 ford F-150 Pickup with the 4.9 liter straight six and auto OD transmission has a shifting problem. I wonder if any one can help me. My problem is than my transmission shifts from OD to 3 and than back again intermittenly. I just had the tranny overhauled about 2 months ago and than this started to happen. Sometimes when traveling at a lower gear it will do the same thing. It feels like the engine is missing. I just had a tune-up but it is still happening. Someone told me that it could be MLP sensor. I had the MLP sensor changed in 1997. Could it have gone bad already? I woul appreiciate any help on this ,

The E4OD can be a tricky beast sometimes. The MLPS could be a cause, but the codes from the OBD1 computer should be checked even if there is no check engine light.

What exactly was done at the "overhaul"?

In the overhaul was a bench rebuild and change out torq converter

The MLPS was redesigned due to water intrusion, so it's possible you have the old design. I'd consult whoever rebuilt the transmission about the current symptoms, & pull the codes.

Could it have gone bad in 10 years?!?!?!? OF COURSE it could (and probably did) go bad in 10 years.

I'd change the MLPS. When they start to fail they cause the problems you are seeing, and won't set a code for a long time. By then the trans is usually ruined by the bad MLPS.
