bad leak

I have a bad leak from what i can till is the transfer case. I tried to put my truck into 4 wheel drive and it would not work, Can this be caused by the fluid being low in the transfer case? The truck is a 97 f150 4x4 with the shift on the fly.

where exactly is it leaking from?? wipe everything down to pinpoint it. low fluid can cause the case not to engage.

I havnt had time to wash it down yet to find where it is leaking from somewhere from the back of the tranmission pan, I checked my tranmission fluid and it is full. The leak got real bad yesturday when i went four wheeling. Thats when i notice i didnt have four wheel drive. I put it in 4 hi or 4 lo and the front drive shaft engages, and when i put it into 2hi the drive shaft disengages. It just doesnt move the front wheels.

I think i traced it down to between the transfer case and the tranmission pan. Anyone know what could be leaking from this spot.?

make sure all your pan bolts are tight.check the tailshaft seal.when those leak it whips fluid all over the place.
