Hello folks,

I have a Whinning noise which I believe is coming from the transmission. This is prevalent with an increasing speed from a slow crawl or traffic light. I do not hear it at road speeds. This is observed both at hot and cold operation. When I say a whine, it sounds like an old power steering pump. Is that normal for a 4.6 V8 automatic transmission vehicle? Thanks, Roger

 

A lot of 4R70Ws do this. Not all, but many. It's called gear noise, and while it's annoying, it doesn't mean that it's going to fail any time soon.
