Has anyone here experienced or noticed that their vehicles with the torq shift tranny acting funny with the cruise control on? What I'm asking is when I have my cruise on at about 42 mph, and the tranny goes into final overdrive the truck sometimes starts to buck and jerk, while doing this the tach is going form about 1200 rpm to 1600 rpm. Kinda like searching for the right gear. Ive taken it to ford but without a CODE they say everything checks out ok. Im at a loss, its been there to the dealer 3 times with the same result. Ive asked them to even run an engine missfire test, that also comes back clean. PLEASE HELP. THANKS

 

I have a 2004 Ford F-150 that is doing the same thing at the same speed. I have read somewhere that this is a computer isssue, but cannot remember where. I will have to look. But it is almost like it is looking for the gear like you said.

 

Let me know what you find out. Dealer says without a code they have nothing to go by. Thanks

 

im pretty sure ur not supposed to use cruise control unless you'r going at least 50

 

I think I read it in a Popular Mechanics or some other car magazine where the transmission was slugglish and although it did not mention the truck bucking, it was pretty close. It is a weird feeling and it feels like a glitch in the electronics. I 'll keep you posted and let you know what I find out.

 

I'm willing to bet it is a torque converter cluthc issue. Does it rattle at idle? If so how bad?

no noise at all, just an occasional buck, no other symptons. The truck only has 39,000 miles on it and I have owned it since new.

Same here. I cannot locate the Popular Mechanics article. But it sounded like the same problem and it was a computer adjustment, I believe there was no code either, it was just that they told the service department the transmission sometimes seemed sluggish almost like sometimes it would not keep up for example when on an entrance ramp to a highway. My truck would sometimes feel sluggish but I do not remember it bucking. It is the weirdest thing.

 

It could be the MLPS / DTR Sensor in failing or out of adustment. I had a similar problem after replacing my transmission and after adjusting the sensor it imporved.

Here is a link to some information on the issue. Be warned that checking the adjustment with a multi-meter is not easy and darn near impossible on a 4x4.

There is a tool for the adjustment, but it can be expensive.

I've heard of this problem with a lot of fords. Most commonly with vehicles under 5000 miles, with the cruise control on going up or down a hill. If this sounds like your problem, its probably your computer still in its "learning mode" trying to learn your driving style, it should go away after 5000 miles.
