Problems

It all started tonight. I lost reverse, o/d and second gear all at the same time. It has always taken a couple seconds to actually engage reverse. But this time when I put it in reverse, i got nothing, and I was in the middle of the road! Is the tranny toast or is there some whiz bang gizmo I need to check. Being as it's 11pm I haven't checked any fuses or anything, that's first thing tomorrow. It will drive forward fine, as long as o/d is off. I have no lights flashing.

The truck is a 2001 supercrew with a 5.4. Completely stock. This is my first post, and I did search. I would really appreciate any help.

THANKS,

BILL

When was the last time you checked the fluid? How many miles? Could very well be toast.

I check all the fluids religiously. The tranny fluid is full, not burned, and not discolored. The truck has 76,000 miles on it. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic so I can find my way around pretty well, but i know nothing about auto trannies.
THANKS

Bill

I've talked to some tranny shops, it sounds like there is a common problem with the 4R70W tranny. I don't remember the name off the top of my head, but it is a spot welded part that seperates and you lose overdrive and reverse. Thought people might want to know!

At least you get a good warranty with the Re-man.
