How rare is it to have factory manual tranny?

I have a 99 4.6 with a 5 speed and have rarely seen a truck that wasn't an auto. Just curious!

Ford hasn't released those figures since 1996.
In that year, Automatics were about 70% of the total build.
In 1999, the (Auto only) 5.4L most likely made that percent go up.

I guess would be 85% maybe?

That leaves 15% and probably 75% of those were a low end V6.

So total, there were probably 4% 4.6L Manual.

If they built 600,000 F150s in 1999 then maybe 24,000 were like yours.

(all guesses but, I didn't read about a prize for being accurate )

Dad has the 4.6L + M5OD-R2 in the '97, but only because of special order. It is just a small percentage.

I had a '98 F-250 light duty (looks just like the F-150) regular cab, long bed (8 foot), Lariat, with the 4.6 and a 5 speed overdrive.

99% of the driving I do is highway miles, and as I didn't have to do all that much shifting, or sitting in traffic......that stick shift sure was nice.

I think trucks should be stick shifts.

And an even higher percentage of the F-250LD/F-150 7700's are 5.4 autos, so your old truck is even rarer.

And now with the 04 and up trucks you can only get a 5speed in a v6 truck and most of them are the bare bones type. Its just a matter of time when you will only get a auto in all new trucks.

Cool I have a 2001

I just bought a 2001 F150 4.6L 5 speed manual trans. extended cab 4 door. This truck has the bear bones but that is fine with me. No electrical repairs on doors, windows, or mirrors. All it has is A/C, AM/FM/CD, and cruise. The things that I like to have. This is my first Ford and for some reason excited to have it.

Welcome from another Newbie

I have a '99 F150 V-6 5 speed XLT and it was my first Ford truck and am very happy with it. Although I'm an automatic fan at heart.

You won't find many F-150s with a 5.4 and a stick. I had to make mine. There were enough built for Hurst to finally produce a short throw shifter for the stick.

It took 4 months after ordering the F-250 LD before it was built.

I guess the assembly line has to change the layout when they start putting the sticks in, and they wait until they have multiple orders, before they start.

At least that's the B.S. line the dealer gave me......while I waited.

I think that it is a matter of priority so how many orders they have that are in front of yours dictates when it is built. I ordered my 00 in August and it was built in October.
