Stock Aux Cooler Capacity?

Does anyone know what is the cooling capacity (in BTU) of the factory 14-plate auxillary transmission cooler (Ford towing package 1999)?

I was considering upgrading mine to a 14,400 BTU B&M unit, but a couple of reputable transmission shops in the area said I'd probably be wasting my money, as the Ford secondary cooler is a good one.

I'll be towing 4500-5000# occasionally.

Hi!!

The 99's (E-Mod) had the 4r100's trans - It's possible you have the smaller 70. . .What trans model s on your truck?

Well I looked around , it was to difficult without knowing your trans, looking up to types takes twice as long(3 including my E4OD) - well, have no time left today. The stock has to be 8-12,000 BTU which would do awesome with all Ford trans - overkilled already - does it say that BM cooler is for a f150? That seams like allot - I think your okay.
I didn't go out of my way that much , I had to figure this out for myself as-well - so no biggy . There's allot of info about hookup strategies in order to obtain 100% efficiency - relocating existing unit to the center of your radiator brings cooling from 80% EFY to 100% EFY.

Good luck.

Trans is the 4R70W. The B&M unit I sourced is a universal unit as detailed in this thread. In my early investigation, I didn't realize that those saying one "must add a tranny cooler" to these trucks were referring to those without the factory towing package unit. I thought I might need more cooling on top of it. It's only recently I realized this isn't so, and that the current unit may be adequate.

If my stocker is only 8,000, then I might change it out for this 14,400. If it's on the high end of the 8-12K scale, then maybe not.

Thanks for your research, jbrew. Any more light you can shine on this will be appreciated. Thanks.

Andy

PS: Listed 4500-5000# trailer weight, as I might be upgrading at some point and want to cover my bases now.
