On my 2003 Edpedition with the 5.4 and 4R70w, unlike my 2001 F150 SCREW there is NO drain plug in the TC.

So I was asking on the forum last week about pumping the fluid out via the return line. Got lots of advise so I gave it a try today. I connected a clear hose to the return line on the trans, the top steel line on the tranny, furthest away from the pan.

It did pump out but I only got 6 qts out. I did this in Park. I know the trans holds some 14qts per the manual. When I pulled the pan to change the filter there was about 1 cup of fluid left.

Any thoughts why more didn't come out?

 

Once the pan is empty the pump can't push any more fluid out. You have to add new fluid to the pan and pump some more.
