Hard Clunk while acceleration from a roll...

2005 SCREW 5.4L. 55K. I get a hard clunk when I step on the gas while driving 15-20mph. Always happens in traffic. I can repeat this at any time. I have taken it to the dealer so many times with the same complaint and they always say, we could not reproduce the noise. What can I do? I am still under my extended warranty. Help.

same clunk

I have the exact same problem with my 05 Screw 5.4...right between 15-20 mph...I assume the shift from 1st to 2nd...extremely noticable hard clunk...seems to be most prevalent on an incline and more pronounced when the a/c is on...I have about 19k on mine...the only mod I've done is stereo stuff and the 2.5 daystar leveling

i had the same problem on my 2000 and i needed a new transmission...sorry to say it but i had pretty much the same symptoms you guys are having, banging sound while accelerating especially uphill...the engine would also rev and truck would buck after the clunk. I dont know a whole lot about the specifics all i know is I took it to get it checked out and was not too happy after, so if you have the warantee i suggest getting it checked out soon

Buzz,

Maybe you should take the service manager for a ride since it's so repeatable. My '05 4X4 does the same thing, but not often. I think it might be a drive shaft coupling. I had a 94 K1500 Chevy that did this too and it had a manual tranny so I don't know that I'd be too quick to blame the auto trans. for the clunk.

My '01 did the same thing and I found the intermediate sprag retaining ring had come off. This is a common problem with the AODE/4R70W transmissions. Superior has an updated spiral lock ring whick is included in there shift improvment package. Unfortunatly, you have to remove the front pump to access it, which requires transmission removal.

My '98 XLT 4x4 did the same thing and I was told it was the slip yolk. While moving a chest freezer we noticed the "bang" went away. My '00 Lariat 4x4 doesn't do it
