backup light switch

Whats the location of this switch? I think mine is giving up! 1997 f150 4.6

Driver's side of the trans, where the shifter cable attaches. It's the part with the electrical harness connected.

This assumes that you have an automatic.

i have an 89 f-150 with a c-6 transmission. the truck was my grandpas and i remember even when i was little the backup lights never worked. i'm assuming that it's the switch but can't seem to find it. can anyone help?

It's always in the same spot on all slushboxes: driver's side around the lever that the shift linkage is attached to. #138 below.
