o/d light blinking on my 99 F-150 5.4

would changing the trans. fluid and filter maybe help or do I have to get a diagnostic check to see what the problem is

You needx to have the codes pulled in order to see what the computer is complaining about.

you will need a scan tool that is capable of reading manufacturer-specific (in this case, FORD) codes.

thanks Steve I was afraid of that. the only difference that I can tell is that I can feel it shift from 2nd to 1st when I slow down. I will go and have it checked out

happen to know how long i could drive before i make it worse?

You usually can drive up to a mile or so without making it worse. Sometimes more than that, sometimes less than that. Sometimes you'll destroy the trans in the first 50 feet. It all depends on what's wrong with it.

this happened to my 99 also about 2yrs ago they drove it and saw what i was talking about, came back and disconnected the battery, drove it again and been working fine ever since
