Tranny swap

Hey i have a 87 f-150 XLT Lariat with a 5.0L 2wd and im thinking about purchasing a 90 f-150 XLT Lariat with a 5.8L 4X4 but could i swap out my engine and trany from the 87 and stick it in the 90 or would i have to keep the original tranny from the 5.8L and if i did can i stick it on to my 302?

Yes the 302 and 351 share the same bell patterns, but we need more info to see if the swap is possible.

What tranny is in the '87? Your choices are the C6 (PRND21), or the AOD (PRN(D)D1). It's ok to go check if you don't remember

The 5.8 in '90 could also have the C6 or another tranny the E4OD (PRN(D)21) with an OD lockout button on the dash.

Report back and we can get ya fixed up with whats possible.

Welcome aboard too.

The E4OD is controlled by the main computer, so to use it, you would need the complete wiring harness/computer from an E4OD truck.
