tranny fluid question

I have a 2001 f150 2wd 4.2 v6 with the 4R70W transmission that takes the mercon V fluid. Well what happened is i added a half a quart of regular mercon fluid to the tranny on accidnet without realizing i grabbed the wrong quart of fluid. Is this really a bad thing and need to get the tranny fluid changed? or can i just get a quart of additives and add the recommended amount ???

A half quart isn't going to make any difference at all. Forget it.

ok well along the same lines a day later after i added this half a quart, my tranny didnt seem to wanna kick down after putting the pedal to the floor after already going about 40-50 mph. This is what was making me think that i really f--ked something up. Any ideas of why this won't kick down at all??

I wouldn't think so, but when are you due for a tranny fluid change anyways? I'd say if soon, change and forget it, but if you're still a ways away, still shouldn't matter really so forget it too. Now I hear the Mercon V is to be used instead of the older dextron 3/ mercon as a replacement, so you're bound to have at least of quart of old flowing around with the V anyways. I changed the fluid in the transfer case which is supposed to be Mercon only with Mercon V, and no problems so.

Pretty messy job if you do not have proper drain facilities, assuming you do not have a drain plug in the transmission pan. You have to drop the pan with fluid in it.

yeah you need to drain the tc too.its not hard just a bit of a pain.i use a crowbar to spin the tc after you remove the grommet in the bellhousing until the drain plug is at the bottom.you might wanna spin the tc and make sure you have a drain plug.some trucks don't have em and i think it was on 01's

the other day i was looking at changing out my EGR valve for emissions testing here in a month or so and noticed the one of my connectors at my throttle body (throttle position sensor im assuming) was damn near disconnected. I plugged it back in and its been running like a champ for a week now.
