Transmission temp guages...who's got them?

Hey guys,

I was just wondering how many of you are running any kind of transmission temperature gauges? I'm thinking of getting a digital gauge and wanted to see what brand of gauges you guys are running and where you're putting it. I've got an '06 F-150 with the factory tow package.

Any help appreciated.

I've got an Autometer guage, not a digital though. If you're gonna be doing any heavy towing or hauling I would suggest installing one, especially in a hot climate (I'm in FL). You'd be suprised how hot they can get. I wish I would have installed one when I first started towing. I didn't install it untill the second camping season here after my fluid was looking a little foul after towing one season. I installed an active tranny cooler with it and now I rarely see temps over 180 and the trans fluid looks good after towing a few times.

In any instance it never hurts to know what the temp is.

I've got an autometer electric in traditional black face and chrome. I was shocked to see what my trans temps were doing when pulling a tiny uhaul trailer empty through traffic. I hate to think about what it did towing the travel trailer last year

You can check out my gallery for the install.

Thanks for the replies. I plan on getting a gauge, just not before I tow next weekend. I'm towing a 20 ft. enclosed car hauler. How well does the factory transmission cooler work? Am I better off getting an aftermarket one or is the factory OK? I live in FL and it can get pretty hot sometimes.

You should be ok. Just remember that backing up generates a lot more heat than anything else. Stop and go traffic is next on the list. Out on the highway you should be fine. I pull a #6500 travel trailer with an 02 5.4 4x2 with the 4r70w trasmission. It has the factory trans cooler and it wasn't enough cooling.
