Tranny Swap

How bad of an idea would it be to swap my C6 3-speed automatic transmission with a 5 speed maunal? Would it give a bit more power, what about gas mileage? And also, how difficult would the swap be, installing the clutch, and clutch pedal, and would the swap pay itself back in of course gas mileage?

It is "bolt in" if you have a donor truck. What are you lookin for? The light duty M5OD-R2 from 88-96 behind the 300 and 302 is nice for daily driving and goofin around with. The heavy duty ZF-5 from an 88-97 F-2/350 with the 351 (not the 460 or 7.3, different pattern) is perfect for heavy towing and hard wheeling.

Are you 4x4? Be prepared to pay for a small block 4x4 ready ZF as they are highly desired by wheelers.

I dont have a donor truck yet, and I am 2WD. I was gonna do a bit of junkyard shopping to see what I could find. I dont want to get rid of my engine, but I want a tranny that is kind of heavy duty, geared for pulling, and with overdrive for highway driving, and gas mileage. Also I had one other question, what is the fluid capacity on my transmission (C6). The book says 12 quarts, yet when I check it, the fluid level is WAY UP there on the dipstick, and its leaking too... Speakin of bolt pattern, out of the engines, which ones have the same bolt pattern? IE. Does the 300 have the same bolt pattern as the 302 and 351? Also, I've been thinkin of a ZF5 s5-42, Ive seen from your thread that its greatly geared, and its got a creeper 1st gear, and thats kind of what I'm lookin for. And it has overdrive, which im hoping will increase my mileage to somethin better than 12-17...

-Thanks
