The "best" place is where you feel most comfortable with the temp readings.

The trans output line is the "best" IMO, but that's because I want to know what the hottest the fluid ever gets....

Some folks like the ease of putting it in the 'test port' of the trans. This is easy to do, but it's also before the TC has a chance to heat up the fluid, so it'll tell you how hot things are inside the trans, but not it's hottest temp.

The other place is in the pan.. This is good if you want to know how hot the fluid is before it starts to 'work'.

So, what's the "best"??? I don't know, but for me the trans output line works fine for me.

I've only seen a high of 210* on mine and that was when the TC was unlocked and generating a ton of heat.

Now, if I saw 210* and my sensor was in the pan, I'd be a little nervous....

Just know that where ever you put the sensor is better then where the 'stock' one is! At least you will have some idea of what your trans temp is, so that's better then nothing!

All of that makes rock solid scents, do you have any pics of the install in the the line or what did you use to do this?

No pics, but I spliced into the rubber hose part of the trans line, just before it goes to the rad. I used brass hose fittings and a brass tee I got from Home Depot. I also got about 18" of rubber trans line to 'loop' around to make the connection after the tee.

I used an electric gauge, so I had to run a ground wire from the tee to the chasis. You see the hose clamps and all (if you crawl up under the front of the truck and look for it), but overall a pretty clean install....

I've had that and my water temp gauge installed (in a similar fashion on the heater hose) for about 4 years now and not a problem...

What Mitch said, and use teflon tape on the brass fittings. I made the mistake of not using it the first go around and it leaked like crazy.

I use an autometer guage.
