Changed Fluid And Help!

Hey Guys,

I just changing my trans fluid and installing a Mag-hytec pan. Everything was great, installed the pan and new filter, filled with new trans fluid. When I went to dump the container holding the old pan, filter and fluid there was a yellow plastic plunger looking think laying in the bottom of the old pan. It looks like kind of a Pawn chess piece. There is a o-ring on the large diameter. The tip is maybe 1/4" and about an 1 1/4" long and the big diameter is maybe 7/8" diameter and about 1/2" long. Any idea what this is and where is goes. I could take a digital picture if that would help.

Thanks for your help!

Brian

That is a plug that they put in the trans dipstick opening at the factory. They do this because the dipstick is installed after the trans is installed and this keeps fluid from spilling before the tube goes in. When they put the tube in, they just push that piece into the pan. It is there until you drop the pan to do the first service.

I was caught by the same thing. You can throw that plug away. It was put in the fill tube at the factory to keep trash out of the trans before it was installed in a vehicle.
Finding that plug indicates this was the first time the pan was off since the trans was installed when your truck was built.

Howdy and welcome!

I think it's a new record around here too. This hasn't been asked in two weeks...

I'll let it slide if you post some pics of the truck
