95 colomn shifter moves but nothing happens!!! help!!!

hi all.
been round this site for a while, even had a different log on when i owned a ford....but that was a couple years ago. the point of this post is actually to solve a problem that my dad has in his ford.

hes got a 95 f-150 extended cab stepside bed with the 5.8 liter engine in it. colomn shifter and push button 4x4

its been sitting for 2 years and now he wants to sell it. we got it running and we drove it to the front of the driveway and put a for sale sign on it.

couple days later he needed to move it and he started it up put the shifter in drive and nothing happened.

the transmission is not responding to the position of the colomn shifter......checked all the relevant fuses......any ideas as what it could be?

all help would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks!

Cable could have broken, but i'll bet a doughnut on the Tranny Range Sensor. Check it out on the drivers side of the tranny and see if it moves.
