Tranny Fluid
I was wondering if anyone has replaced their tranny fluid. I saw a thing on Horsepower TV and they found that changing the tranny fluid and some others added some HP. I wanted to know if anyone has done this to their Truck and what they used.
Thx

Changing transmission fluid will not add any HP to any vehicle.
At best, it will restore lost transmission performance but is intended to preserve the life of the transmission's internal components.
Use the correct fluid for whatever transmission your truck has. you can look this up at www.motorcraft.com

If you use (insert brand) of (insert car part) your gas milage will go up, your horsepower will go up, your grass will grow greener...
It's all advertizing on those shows.
However, to make the tranny last fluid should be flushed every 30K. I'm assuming you have an 88 so thats Mercon for every possible tranny.

What you probably saw was the use of Royal Purple in the Engine, Transmission and Differential to reduce friction and therefore get better MPG>

I never have on any previous vehicle, but, I had the transmission serviced Saturday, on this truck. The regular service is recommended at 30,000, which is replace filter and just the fluid in transmission, as opposed to a flush. That is recommended at 60,000 unless you do a lot of towing, then it is recommended sooner. I have no idea why I did it on this one. I have put as much as 100,000 on previous vehicles without touching the transmission. I think I succumed to a lot of the fools on here that did it and want more suckers to join them.

That's a fact, Jack...err, Chester.
Every 30,000 miles, +/- a couple thousand.
110,000 perfect miles as far as the transmission is concerned, and I honestly expect 150,000 to 200,000 with no tranny work other than the 30,000 mile servicing.

I AM RIGHT THERE WITH YA!! I replaced my original front O2 sensors at 160,000 miles. (which was dumb.) And I removed my intake silencer. (REALLY DUMB) I'm through with doing crap like that though.

Well, I have over 174,000 PERFECT miles on my tranny and I've only changed the fluid once! And I pull stuff all day, every day, (certian times of the year). Which means, that you would have changed yours 5 more times than me.(at this point) And if you had the dealership do it, you could probably have bought you a new tranny with the money!

Maybe. But Georgia boys must have good luck, cause I take better care of my truck than anybody I know. (except my dad) Most people don't even change their oil. And do you think they change the tranny fluid?! There's a lot of people on this site that are maintenence crazy! Like changing their power steering fluid, and brake fluid every 3,000 miles. Who ever heard of changing brake fluid, or power steering fluid?! Why bother? It's hydraulic oil. It never wears out, and there's no clutches or combustion to crap it up.
