Just a few more questions...

I purchased a Long TRU-COOL Transmission Cooler (#4454 - 18K GVRW), it should be here in a few days. I started searching for mounting locations and saw a lot of posts but nothing that really helped me, so here are a few questions...
1 - Where should I mount the cooler (I have a stock cooler behind the bumper)?
2 - Should I be worried about covering too much of the radiator? (engine over heating)
3 - I read posts about installing the new cooler in sequence with the existing, so should new one be inline first or second?
4 - Looking at the current set up, the lines go through the radiator, then to the cooler; should I by pass the radiator? Seems to me it would cool better, but then in the winter, the tranny make take a long time to get to operating temps.
5 - Any thing else I should know that I may be over looking?

With the current set up I've seen temps +220* in the summer, going up and down hills towing a ~6000# travel trailer and I'm really trying to avoid that again.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

I wish I had the definitive answer for you. I just installed another trans cooler (21000 GVW) and an external bypass filter. Here's how I am set up:

1. Output of transmission to the...
2. Input of the radiator to the...
3. Output of the radiator to the...
4. Input of the bypass filter through the...
5. Trans temp gauge sensor to the...
6. Output of the filter to the...
7. Input of the new cooler to the...
8. Output of the new cooler and finally...
9. To the input of the transmission.

I am seeing temps going into the radiator af about 164*, and returning to the trans at about 145*, as measured by a infrared thermometer, so I have done some good. Regarding location, my filter setup is mounting foward of the radiator, on the passenger side, fairly close to the inner edge of the headlight assembly. The cooler is also forward of the radiator, on the driver's side. On my '95, I had to remove the grill (easy job) to install everything. I would recommend a gauge if you dont have one, and measure the temperature at the hottest possible place, like somewhere on the output of transmission line. I believe this is the hottest place.

Also, some people believe in not running the trans fluid through the radiator, and relying solely on the trans cooler. There are pros and cons to both ways.

Hope this helps!
