Stranded again !!!!!

OK if anyone has been following my latest post you know that I,m having problems with my truck, speedo and odometer going crazy and OD lite flashing acompanied by no or few gears. Well I went to a NAPA parts store and purchased a VSS (the one that goes on the tranny) however I could not find this part on my truck. I returned it and was informed that the only other VSS was located on the diferential itself and was a Ford only part. Went to local Ford dealer, explained my situation and the parts manager said that it did sound like the VSS and sold me the one for the rear end which was a breeze to changed and I thought my problems were solved because the truck seemed to run fine on the short trips I had taken it on afterwards. Well today I was headed out to the rifle range for some father son quality time. About 20 miles from home. The truck started acting up (same problems) right when we were a mile from the range. I figured screw it were here I'll take out some frustration with a 45 and 40 cal on some targets and worry about the trucks gremlins later. About 2hrs later we were ready to head home. Started the truck every thing seemed normal again and made it home with no problems until I was about a 1/4 mile from home and the truck started shifting at different points. So now what ?????? I need this thing to pull my camper this weekend and don't need to be sitting along the roadside. Any help would be most appreiciated.

this is looking at the transmission from the back of it.

and this is what the sensor looks like removed

if you are not seeing this under your truck then maybe yours is an e40d and i'm not really sure if that part is any different.

Alot of the trucks have the sensor in the differential. Look on the top of the rearend housing you will see a little sensor remove the bolt and take it out. Most of the time there is just some crap on the thing you can clean it off and put it back in and be good to go. It may be a sign something isn't right back there it usually is. Have you ever serviced the diff?

Alan..

My truck had a manual tranny and I have a VSS in the rear diff. Now I installed the 4r70w tranny and I believe it also has the VSS in the tailshaft.Do the autos have the VSS in the rear as well as in the tranny?Maybe that has something to do with my TC not locking in 1,2, or OD.

The Saga Continues !!!!

Drove the truck to a local shop today and had the tech put it on the computer. The code was for the speed sensor. It's going back Weds morning to be looked at closer. He was also confused about the location of the speed sensor. When I told him that my particular truck did not have the sensor on the tranny tail shaft he looked at me like I was crazy until he looked underneath and did'nt see it either. I'm hoping for the best but I never have good luck, the hot water heater in the house went out today, probably will end up being the tork converter.
