02 f 150 transmission question

i just got a 2002 fx4 f 150. it is a 4x4 and has a 5.4l engine. when i start out with the engine cold the truck runs around 300rpms higher going down the highway. then i feel something and it drops down where it normally is after it warms up a little but. is something wrong here??

No, nothing is wrong. The torque converter won't lock up until the trans warms up a bit. It's working as designed.
