pcm calibration problems?

ive tried to fix my truck with help from a few of you but need still more help. it brings up p0708 code. i have replaced the tr sensor, checked the wiring, replaced the pcm. today i found out that the motor and trans were replaced with second hand parts. the replacement parts came out of a 96 model truck with a pcm calibration 6-48d, the pcm in my truck is calibrated to 7-48c. could this be the problem?



my truck is a 97 model. thanks. brian

I doubt that the PCM calibration has any effect on the P0708 code.

I'd suspect one of the following:

DTR alignment
Wiring harness issues (open or short circuits)
PCM fault
Other sensor/wiring/PCM fault that kills needed signals

You really need an OBDII scanner capable of reading and displaying PIDS to see what the PCM is seeing from the DTR. You can manually duplicate this testing with a meter, but the procedure is more difficult since you'd be stabbing at connecxtor pins with a probe.

Hopefully, you also have access to the factory service procedure from the service manual or CD. It is a definite requirement.

I'd take a close look at the pins on the connector to the MLP. I've had 'em before where the individual pins spread and make poor/intermittent contact with the MLP itself.

fixed it

just in case this may help out anyone else- i put the new module (pcm) and it has fixed it. i suspect the type of tr sensors changed between the time of manufacture of the trannys and so the truck required the original module to operate properly. so if a p0708 code comes up and its not the sensor or the wiring it may be a pcm - but there are probably unusual circumstances for it to be so. thanks for all who helped. brian
