Tranny place put DexIII instead of Merc V III -

So I finally take my 01 Supercrew with the 'W' tranny to the tranny shop for a pan drop, torque converter drain....get home, look at the receipt and it says they put Penzoil Dextron III in it!!!!!!!

All these posts here say to put MercV...I called them and they said it would be fine...i'm not sure I believe them...oH and they also put 2 quarts of a shudder fix in it as well

Now what the heck am I going to do??? Will I be safe for a couple thousand miles or do I have to change it out now??? I plan on doing a little light towing this summer 3000 pounds or less...

Thanks,
hpipe

The difference in the Mercon/DextronIII and Mercon V is the fact that Mercon V has friction modifiers that the 4R70w needs to last. From 94 to 97 Ford just used plain 'ole Mercon in the 4r70w so I guess you would be OK, but if it were my tranny I would only want the Mercon V in there.

I'd change it soon. The difference is anti-shudder. Without the anti-shudder in MERCON V you will develop torque converter shudder, and that's not good.
