Transmisssion clunk downshifting help!!

New here and am seeking any info on the downshift clunking that has developed in my 99 s crew. Auto with 84000 miles. have had this truck over a year and never tow anything. I drive approx 20 miles/day all in the city. As others have said, It literally sounds like I am being rear ended when I slow to a light. Doesnt do it everytime but when it does it scares the crap out of me! Have seen info on other threads relating to this but nothing recent. Also seen info about reflashing. What is it? Is it just for newer trucks or could it help me? Just researching for a simpler, cheaper solution before "mr transmission" tells me I have to rebuild or get a new tranny.

I had the fluid flushed a year ago.

Whats the service interval for trans fliud and filter ( i dont have a manual)

Try the transmission mount.

Just got back from driving and diagnosing.

when slowing down I shifted to neutral and as depressed the brake to stop I still got the clunk. Not the tranny right?

So what gives?

Differential?

Brakes grabbing?

Check your U-Joints. Mine did this exact thing.

What do I need to look for and what do they do to cause this?

Wasn't the slip yoke a problem clunking if it is allowed to dry out??. I would check it.
