1997 F-150 w/4.6 v-8 automatic and cruise control. The odometer (mileage accumulation) quit and I need to know if it is cable or electronic. And then how do I fix it?

Great link to fix the electronic odometer (wish I saw it before I sold my 2002 Explorer), however the odometer in the 97 is mechanical.

 

Yeah, 97s and 98s are mechanically driven just like the pre 92 body style with a cable to the tranny or transfer case. Who knows why ford does what they do.

Check the cable at your transfer case if your 4x4 or you're tranny if you're 4x2. You also could have stripped the plastic gear that drives the cable.

I say screw it, it'll be a "low mileage" F-150 no matter how far ya drive it!

 

Thanks for the input and if I had any sense, since the speedometer is working, I'd leave it alone. But I'm too **** so my wife says and have to fix it if it's broken. I'll check out the cable and replace it.
