Unhappy 3RD and 4TH Gear gone!!!

Ok guys i went to work today and my truck was running smooth then on the way back from work Baam, I go to shift to 3RD gear and dam she starts to rev and not wanting to catch same with the 4TH gear, before all this happened i knew that 3RD gear was a bit tough and would not want to stay there, it would somtimes want to pop out of 3RD now if 3RD gear goes does 4TH go with it as well? any idea why this would happen? Its just about christmas and i hoping that this will not cost me alot of $$$ how much you guys think it will cost to fix this. i got a 1994 ford f150 manual tranny 4.9 liter 2wd.

$655 plus shipping

I'm driving the same truck (model year, engine and tranny) with 140k miles. About a year ago my local dealer mis-diagnosed a bent drive shaft and worn out spider gears (in the diff.). He told me my tranny was shot. I looked into a remanufactured tranny (Mazda M5OD) from Smart Parts Auto for $655.

I later went to an independent shop who correctly diagnosed the problem, installed OEM spider gears and a used drive shaft for a very reasonable price.

I never ordered the tranny but would be grateful for feedback from anyone who has used these guys.

Sounds like a linkage problem but I don't know much about these trannys. I'd suggest you pull the shifter boot unbolt the top cover and take a look. I would think that would give you a quick way to see if it is something simple anyway. Beyond that, well good luck. I'm sure someone on here would have a good idea.

Ok guys we found out what the problem was it was the shift forks!!! One was so badely worn out and the other was on the edge giving out aswell, i lucked out and found a guy who is very reasonable and did good work but i helped him out aswell and learned a few things about my transmission , i never looked at my transmission before or others only pics on the web and all i can say is what a piece of work having all those gears doing what they should be doing, one thing that he told me was to try not to keep your hand resting on the shifter cause this will cause alot of wear in the end i use to do this all the time but no more, in the end it cost me $800 canadian instead of the 2 grand that i was quoted at but from this place that i got an estimate at they were about to be replacing parts that never needed replacing. always look around and like me if i find a problem like this im going to bust open that tranny case and look for my self its alot cheaper than taking it to your local shop. i posted some pics of the shift forks for you people.
