trans question?

when i start my truck in the morning , my truck will jump forward against the parking lock! it is a fast hard lunge forward with no niose.[ 97 5.4 auto trans ]i was wondering if anyone else has ever seen this . it does not matter if the truck is pionted up hill or on level ground it will still lunge forward. and no i am not emaging this! it moves 4 to 6 inches. thanks for the help!

hmmm...

im no genious but i know if you dont put the clutch in all the way in manuals it can jump forward....so in an automatic i would think it would have to do with the torque converter...as if it was stuck or something...

I dont know excatly what to tell though.

Do you live in a cold climate? If so, and it only does it when the transmission is cold, then I don't think it should be of concern. My 97 will do that ocassionally too, now that the temp has dropped below freezing.

The torque converter has nothing to do with it when you are in park. I would say it is an issue in the forward clutches being a little tight. Maybe you heated them up and got the plates a little warped in there which tightened up clearances.

thanks for the input, sorry it took so long to reply had to work over and couldn`t get to the computer to check reply`s. i live in lower middle tennessee. its just now getting cold and it even did it in july. temp doesn`t seem to make a differance. i guess its not hurt nothing i hope,it just catches you off guard when the darn thing jumps forward .
