Tranny Rebuild - More Power??!!!!

Had the tranny rebuilt a few weeks ago. Was riding around last night and came up to a red light with no other vehicles around except my buddy in his Gagalanche. Since getting the tranny done I had felt like the truck had a little more take-off power, so I figured I would try a little power-braking. Much to my surprise, the tires lit up immediately and kept smoking even after take-off. I have 150K+ miles on this truck and have NEVER been able to do this before, even with the Superchips tuning. Ford even put in a new tranny at 95K miles and I could not spin the tires then.

Could this rebuild that I had done have actually given me more power?? I am not familiar with the workings of an auto tranny and what is involved with the rebuild, so any useful info is much appreciated.

In automatic mustangs racers will add a higher stall speed torque converter to make their mustangs take off quicker and to lower their 1/4 mile times. If yours had 150,000miles on it...they might have just cleaned it up and gave it a good cleaning. Here is a good (but long) read on torque converters. It might help explain it a little better.

After a lot of miles, the interals begin to wear and slowly become less effective than when new. As they effectivness goes down, so does their ability to maintain performance like a newer tranny. Hence, after driving it for a long time as it wore out, you got used to less and less performance from it without even knowing it.

As for power braking it, well, I had a 92 Explorer that I had the tranny rebuilt in and after about 20000 miles it started acting up again. There are two types of rebuilds. One where just the "softcore" parts are replaced, and one where they truely go through and replace everything that needs replacement. I wouldn't hammer on it to hard, as it probably came with a 12000 mile one year warranty and if it was a softcore rebuild and had some other worn but not bad parts, you'll be back again with more issues
