Well if your truck has a 4.6 V-8 it has a 4R70W, if its a 5.4V-8 then it has a 4R75W tranny.

Nope, last use of it in an F150 was in the Lightning. The 4r75 is a toughened up version of the 4r70. I work at a Ford dealer and we really have not seen any run of problems with them. Time will tell I guess.

If I had only known this a week earlier! No, this is #5 I have bought there. My original sales guy is now incharge of their finance dept. I tell you where I have an issue, thats with the one Ford house on the motor mile in south Austin (you know the one)......Drove a truck there last fri, gave en my info and never herd back......called them Sat morning and they said they were too busy to call me back as promised to give them 5 min and they'd call me back......3 hrs later I called them and told them to forget it and drove one home from NB 3 hrs later.
The gm called and said he couldnt understand why I went elsewhere....I told him the extra 3 grand on my trade was a major factor. Oh well. (I do buy my ford parts from your parts dept.....dont care for the guys up here)

Ok I figured it was the 4R75e, but in the '04 I looked at it was trans code B. Now the "torqshift" 5R110 in the superdutys are also B. Perhaps for 06 ford changed the code to Q?

'06 trans ID goes "Q" for 4R75W (Livonia) Mark LT/F150, "A" for 4R70W, "F" for 4R75W Mark LT, and "M" for M5R2 5 speed manuals. Before anyone asks, I dunno the difference between "Q" and "F" 4R75Ws.

'04-'05 is A for 4R70W, B for 4R75W, and in '05, M for the M5R2C 5 speed manual.

Quintin,
While doing "projects" at your non profit orginazation.......have you seen any issues with these new trannys? I can tell the difference in shift snappyness over the old 4r70w from my 02. Just wondering if something has actually been made better.

Good info! I'll add that to my tranny info page.

I haven't seen any blow up yet personally. Ford's had enough time from AODs to AOD-Es to the 4R70W to the 75W to work out a lot of the bugs, IMO, the latest and greatest slushboxes seem to be pretty good. I don't do transmission stuff day in and day out though, so take my opinion for what it's worth (i.e. - not a whole lot. ).
