Exclamation Slow shift from 3rd to OD

For the last few cold/cool mornings the truck has had extreme lag time in changing from 3rd to OD. It is supposed to change around 45 mph and it doesn't. I have let the truck warm up before driving. I tried letting up on gas pedal but it still didn't change. It finally changed around 50 mph after going over six miles. Is this normal for a 05 supercrew 5.4 ?
If not, I will contact dealer the next time it happens. Have only 6700 miles on truck and haven't towed anything yet!!

It's not a delay going into overdrive, it's a delay in locking the torque converter. The computer does this when the transmission is cold. Once it warms up it allows the torque converter to lock.

It's working as designed.

It's cold, it'll act a little weird until it warms up. Don't worry about it.

Thanks for the replys. For a minute or tow I thought that the tranny was going. I got to get use to the new vehicles. They seem to be more cantanerous that the old ones. My old 1984 F-150 didn't have all the little problelms these new ones have.

my diesel does the same thing until it gets real toasty...and then all is just fine
to speed up tranny "heating" leave it in neutral if possible while warming up..

That's true on some other brands, but in all Ford transmissions the fluid flow is exactly the same in park and neutral.

what people said on the post is correct the one thing i found with my friends truck is to start the truck and put it in neutral with the e brake on for at least fifteen minutes or so to let the transmission warm up then you should be all set.
